The crowds at the University of Oregon were gigantic. There was also significant police presence in light of anarchist riots in Eugene earlier in the year. The usual band of pro-aborts shows up to sit silently with backs to the painful truth, holding vacuous signs. They offer no defense of their position; only outrage. GAP forces what pro-aborts must fear - a well informed discussion of abortion. These students had never seen an aborted baby and they were clearly troubled.
An amazing number of students took our brochures. The day before GAP almost no one was talking about abortion, once the signs went up abortion seemed to be the topic of every conversation. The very definition of a lost soul: "There is no right choice. There is only your choice." Many students would stand transfixed and stare from sign to sign.
Eager to cover up the evidence that abortion is an act of violence that kills a baby, the pro-aborts next tried to conceal the exhibit with bed sheets. After we threatened the university with a law suit, the administration directed the police to force the bed sheet to move back. Once the bed sheets were pushed back too far to block the views of passers-by, they only served to attract attention. Many students stood and debated for hours.
The harder the pro-aborts work, the bigger the crowds become. Many female students were given the medical journal articles linking abortion with breast cancer. Stunned silence was typical of many of our crowds. Even when rushing from class to class, students find it difficult to look away from aborted baby pictures.
